Yeah, the nice thing about voxels is that they are conceptually so simple. Actually it's a bit deceptive because the algorithms can be fairly complex, but players of voxel games don't see that of course. And it opens up so many possibilities. Some people claim voxel based games are just a fad but I don't agree. I think we're only at the beginning...

Welcome to the forums, anyway :-)

introduce myself huh ? I love booz, horror movies, metal music, punk, hard rock, chick, pizza, linux, owl, ranccoon, chamomille, forest, mountain, germanic lands (Germany,Austria,Elsass,Swiss...), Quantum Mechanic (Schrödinger > Einstein > me(unfortunately) )
I'm dressed sometime like a punk, sometime like a headbanger, sometime like a biker, sometime I'm naked...
I hate FPS, too much jack off think they would be great in real war because they are good in a game... I really hate people who make stupid vidz on youtube, I hate rap, I hate ipod, I hate manga, I hate cauliflower, I hate cell phone, I hate facebook, I hate FBI who stole all my pictures taken for my mom. Oh, I forget to tell I love my mom. I hate and love a lot of other stuffs (people are stuffs too!) so this is just a small sample...

...My english is uggly...

...Oh, why I'm here? meeting single tight girls (23-30 years old) :D

xD I think you're supposed to tell your coding/voxel lifestory, not your RL one ^^
but it was amusing enough. Du bist jetzt der dritte Deutsche den ich hier in dem Forum kenne :)

I realized I never introduced myself (as far as I can remember at least)

I'm a computer science student majoring in Networking (from mobile phones over net neutrality to tcp) and Algorithms/Multi-Core-Architectures(from cellular automata to mutexes) and am writing my Diploma thesis on an asynchronous cellular automaton that is able to do universal computation (meaning I have a NAND gate ;) )

I've developed a minecraft client using polyvox, ogre and boost::asio, development on it is currently frozen, so it can't connect to mc servers updated in the last 3 months.
While I'm not working on my thesis I play strategy games or develop a minimalistic underground strategy game with a voxel world (think lego rock raiders with an added 3rd dimension to dig into)

Don't worry, it's better than my German ;-)

I'm French  from the party making the border with Deutchland, but now I'm living in Canada... My english is better than my german too

Ich bin nicht Deutsch, ich bin Elsässer. Mein Blut und mein Name ist Deutsch, aber mein Pass ist Französisch.

I'm not a coder, I'm studying physics, but I think to specialize myself in numerical simulation. I learnt C/C++ alone during several years, but I still lacking of knowledge, I only had C++ lessons during the last three months.

I already used Ogre3D in the past (3-4 years ago) but I never did something really interesting. I've implemented some chaotic functions in 3D (galaxy) and a 3D random points generator on a sphere (stars background). Other things was more tries...

I'm fan of procedural generation, I already made my own heightmap generator in C. My aim is to make a terrain generator with caverns, something I cannot do with a standard heightmap generator.

My first project with Polyvox will be a stone generator.

Hi All,

I'm a Brit living in New York. I'm been a software guy since I got my first real job at 17. I've written lots of different kinds of software professionally but for my own personal amusement it's either been games or graphics. Although I rarely actually finish any particular project I do enjoy the journey.

Polyvox (+ogre) is my latest move away from my previous attitude mistrusting libraries and preferring to do it myself (I'm finally maturing!). So far this has been a good move. I'm just exploring the possibilities of what can be done but I do have some vague notion of a simplified abstract dwarf fortress / castle story type game. We'll see what develops.

Here are a couple of little javascript projects I made for fun (mine and maybe yours) which have nothing to do with voxels!
http://charlieb.hopto.org/lgarden/ - breed plant-like L-systems using genetic algorithms
http://charlieb.hopto.org/boids/ - shepherd the boids through the green area while keeping them out of the grey.

Right, sorry, I was confused by you love of germanic lands ;-)

I'm also British, though our webpage says 'based in the Netherlands' because that's where I'm living for the next couple of years. It's a bit misleading though because Matt is still in the UK.

Though I only moved back to the UK in December. Before that I'd been living in Switzerland for a year, working at CERN. It seems like none of us can settle down in one place :)

Hi there!!, My name is Chang Joo, Lee, live in Korea(not North Korea) and 18 years old.
I'm a student of Chungbuk Semiconductor High school.
I studied C++ for 2 years and Java for 5 months(I studied programming language neglectfully, so not good at programming).
I currently study DirectX for competition(but I hate directX) and opengl.
My favorite engine is Irrlicht.
so, I'll use polyvox with Irrlicht.

I'm not good at english.

thanks for reading!! :D : :
