Some basic questions about Cubiquity. Is it possible to have more than one ColoredCubes volume present in the same scene? I am experimenting with one ColoredCubes volume that has its data dynamically set, and another one that has its data set from a vdb asset. As soon as the dynamic one begins to render, the volume with the vdb asset disappears from view.
Yes, this should work and unfortunately I don't know what the problem might be from your description. Does it work if both volumes come from VDBs or if both come from code? What about smooth volumes like in the solar system example? Do both the Earth and Moon load?

Also, is it possible to have an object with a MeshRenderer render in the same scene as a cube volume? I can't get this to work either.
I'm afraid I haven't used Unity for a while so I am a little hazy, but a object with a MeshRenderer would be most 'normal' object in the scene, right? Like a charachter or something? So yes, this should work and actually the small cubes which are spawned when you destroy parts of the volume are probably objects with a MeshRender attached.
Unfortunately I haven't used or worked on Cubiquity myself for quite a while, and from this and other posts I get the impression it is having some issues with more recent versions of Unity. It was developed under Unity 4 and only tested a bit under early versions of Unity 5. It may be that there are some issues which won't get fixed until Cubiquity 2.
