Project: Thermite3D Game Engine (no longer developed)

Summary: Thermite is an experimental 3D game engine primarily designed as a show case for PolyVox technology. It integrates PolyVox technology with various other components in order to produce highly dynamic game environments which can be easily modified in real time.


Project: Forever War

Summary: Forever War is an open-source first person shooter featuring fully destructible environments. This is possible because the world geometry is generated from voxels using the “Marching cubes” algorithm. A modified version of the PolyVox technology is used to accomplish this task. The two primary additions to it are the support of smooth geometry and paging (reloading of world data when the player has moved too far).

Summary: This research work focused on real time manipulation of 3D volumetric data which involved implementing graphic rendering and haptic rendering techniques that allow simulation of the interaction between different shapes of cutting tools and a 3D model. This work accommodates the interaction between any arbitrary 3D volumetric models and different shapes of tools that include capsule, cylinder, cone and sphere.

Summary: Apophis 2036 is the first full game built upon the Thermite3D game engine. It places the player in defense of the Earth as it is bombarded with fragments from the Apophis asteroid, in the year 2036. The unique voxel technology used by the game allows the Earth to be modeled in a completely destructible fashion. Asteroids can strike from any direction and angle and the appropriate damage is applied to the Earth.
